Building Enclosure Commissioning

Building enclosure systems have become increasingly complex due to the numerous assembly types and the need for higher performance aimed at meeting current and future sustainability goals. Building enclosure commissioning (BECx) is a process used to assure the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) are met. To do so, the BECx process is intended to have the providers involvement from predesign through post occupancy and utilizes testing to verify the performance of the building enclosure prior to building turnover. In general, this presentation will cover: ? Review the BECx process from predesign through post occupancy. ? Assess appropriateness of systems during design (i.e. Compliance energy code performance requirements). ? Control layer (air, moisture, thermal, vapor) systems commonly used ? Enclosure details particularly at interface/transition details. Emphasis on continuity, compatibility, and constructability. ? Computer analysis available for wall and glazing systems ? Recommended tests for various enclosure assemblies, both mockups and in-situ.
