About this session:

Lack of Fall Protection remains the #1 Cited OSHA Violation, with 7,271 citations in 2023 alone – up from 6,010 in 2019. Fall Protection systems like harnesses has been around for decades, yet injuries and deaths continue to occur; in 2022, 865 workers died and hundreds of thousands injured from falls from as low as 4-6 feet. The average cost for each injury is nearly $50,000. Clearly, there’s room for improvement by implementing new technologies and methods to prevent falls from occurring. This Presentation explores alternatives like temporary Engineering Controls for locations where traditional Fall Protection methods prove too complex, restrictive, or impossible to implement. Most facilities have MRO work above 6 feet, where access be difficult and it’s often impossible to install commonly used Fall Protection systems - there are no safety rated tie-off points and no room for davits or other permanent solutions to be installed, such as lobbies, performance spaces, etc. Thus, to perform necessary tasks safely, Fall PREVENTION methods should be considered. The ANSI/ASSP Z359.2-2017 Standard provides guidance to identify and eliminate injury or death while working at height. The Presentation illustrates innovative ways work can be done efficiently and cost-effectively while maintaining compliance with OSHA 1910.28
