About this session:
The varying strategies of adaptive reuse, conversion or repositioning of commercial buildings, if done properly, can offer both short-term solutions and long-term strategies to maximize a building’s performance. Each strategy has its individual considerations for each unique project. With input from across stakeholders a comprehensive plan can be implemented that meets the needs across the board and prevents underutilized buildings from dragging on real estate portfolios. Stakeholders could include owners, facility professionals, occupants, and the design/architecture team. In the short term, these innovations repurpose buildings to align with current market demands, fostering flexibility and functionality. Long-term strategies focus on sustainable transformation and future-proofing. Effective decision-making on repositioning, adaptive reuse, and conversion strategies requires a comprehensive evaluation of economic feasibility, market dynamics, and community needs. In this session, participants will learn of practical steps towards crafting solutions to underperforming or utilized buildings and hear about real life examples to illustrate effective solutions.
